Halloween Letter from Mr. Castillo

September  27, 2024
 Dear Parents,
“ Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8 (NASV)
One of the aims of a Christian education is to teach our students to value and appreciate those things that are spiritually, intellectually and emotionally uplifting, those things that can be deemed not merely acceptable but excellent and worthy of praise. It is also our goal to assist our students to know and enjoy the attributes of God.
To encourage our students to dwell on those things that are excellent, those things worthy of praise, we respectfully ask that parents not permit their children to bring anything to school dealing with ghosts, witches, goblins, devils etc. This includes notebooks, paper plates, cups, napkins, costumes, lunch boxes etc. Moreover, we have made it our policy that we do not celebrate Halloween at RCCS.  We are in no way judging those who may choose to celebrate Halloween.
This policy is in place because ghosts, witches, goblins, devils, etc., costumes or decorations may tend to diminish the reality of the existence and seriousness of evil and the occult in the minds of our students. Our goal is that they dwell on that which is true, honorable, and excellent and of good repute.
We are committed to leading students, in partnership with families, in developing a relationship with Christ our Savior where they strive to know Christ and to make Christ known. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Should you have any questions regarding this policy, feel free to call me.
 In Christ,
Ezzard G. Castillo

Calendar Update

9/26/2024

Comments

Dear Parents,

We Heard You!  Many families have expressed the desire to have the entire 2 weeks off at Christmas break.   We have a certain amount of days that are required by state law.  We are updating the calendar to allow the Christmas break to run from Dec 23- Jan 3.  The students will return on Monday Jan. 6.  Please update your school calendar accordingly.

To make up the 2 additional days we will have the students attend class for half days on Oct 25 and Mar 28.  Those 2 days are Parent-Teacher conferences but unlike the past, your child will need to attend class half day on those 2 days.  We will arrange for after school care for those who are working and cannot pick up their child those days.

However, to accommodate Parent-Teacher conferences we will start those on Thursday afternoons and complete them on Friday afternoons.  A sign-up schedule will be available as in the past. If you have any questions please reach out to the front office at 210-384-0297

Greetings Warrior Family,
As you may have noticed there is a lot of activity taking place in Warrior Country. We are presently placing a new roof on the main school building and the other houses on the property. The goal is to give the entire campus a fresh look and maximize its use. In the classrooms our students are being challenged  and they are stepping up. If you have not done so yet, friend us on facebook https://www.facebook.com/Rivercitychristianschool/ and instagram https://www.instagram.com/rccswarriors/?igshid=NjY2NjE5MzQ%3D to see the amazing knowledge and skills they are demonstrating. Our Next Step students are learning about budgeting and preparing for their future after high school graduation. Oh yes the students will be organizing RCCS first ever Fall Festival Explosion. Mark your calendar for an exciting day Saturday, October 25th. The culinary students made up of high school and eighth graders are doing a fantastic job.  One of our seniors is on his way to receive his kitchen managers license as his goal is to become a chef. In the athletic arena the soccer and cross country team are training hard. Be on the lookout for game and meet schedules. Go cheerleaders, they are sounding great.
Along with all the fantastic things taking place we are also having some challenges. As many of you are aware our main cooling system crashed the day before school started.  We immediately invested in a temporary solution and are currently seeking the best solution to replace our chiller system. At the same time our brand new internet and phone system stopped working. Thanks to the School at Castle Hills administration they recommended an IT company and both systems are up and running perfectly. Two weeks ago we were notified by Ms. Cion Dussinger/Strickland she was resigning and submitted her two week notice. Beginning Monday we have revised administration and staff schedules and all classes are covered by highly qualified teachers. We believe this will be temporary as we have potential replacements scheduled for interviews.
If you visit the school next week you will also notice a new face working with Mrs Booker. Candy McKee is the newest member of RCCS. Mrs McKee will be training with Mrs Booker and transition to our new Administrative Assistant. Please stop by and introduce yourself to her.
I close by encouraging you to join the students this coming Wednesday, September 25th at 8:15am  at the school flag pole as the pray for schools, leaders, defenders, each other and our nation. I believe those 30 minutes will  provide you a great start to your day.
Blessings
Mr. Castillo

Differentiation

9/15/2024

Comments

As we approach October and the first parent-teacher conferences of the school year, we often hear parents ask us, "What does differentiation mean?"

At River City Christian School, we pride ourselves on providing individualized instruction for each student. Differentiation is a teaching method that adjusts the instruction textbook manufacturers intended to meet the needs of individual students. It includes providing multiple ways for students to learn a topic and express their understanding.

Our educators accomplish this through tailored instruction and adjusting the content utilized to teach a topic, allowing them to provide different ways for students to take in information. Our flexible approach to instruction allows for modification of coursework and, where needed, accommodations to help each student succeed.
