Good Afternoon Parents and Care Givers,
The year is off to a great start, and we are focused on learning and taking our students higher.  Your student may let you know that we conducted a backpack search today. There was no threat of any kind, but due to some cell phone issues I felt it necessary to search backpacks.  In the Handbook on page 45 it states : "RCCS reserves the right to search any items brought on campus, including backpacks, gym bags, purses, makeup bags, cars, student clothing, cell phones, and any and all electronic devices, without notice, student consent, and without a search warrant."
On p. 46 of the Student Handbook it states "Students can have cell phones on campus during the school day.  They must turn them into the teacher during class time. Outside of class, students must have their cell phones turned off and in their backpacks. "  They are not allowed to carry cell phones in their pockets during instruction time.  Please be aware your students will have their phones turned off and inside their backpacks until after school.   If you need to reach your student please call the front office at 210-384-0297. Ten students today were given warnings on proper procedures on their cell phones.  Teachers at their discretion allow students to use the calculators on their phones, but it would be with teacher guidance. Our goal is to limit distractions in the classroom and keep our students engaged and learning.
Several of our young ladies are carrying a makeup wardrobe which is not allowed.  Please go through your daughters backpack and take out any makeup products. We will allow them to have deodorant, feminine products, and chapstick. (we do have a small supply of feminine products and body sprays in our MS/HS bathroom for the girls).   We do not need all the makeup, hair spray, foundation, brushes, eye shadow pallets, etc.  These young ladies are beautiful and don't need most of these items,  but to prevent things being lost or broken we ask they not bring them to school.   Thank you for your assistance in this matter.  (On special occasions such as Homecoming, Turkey Bowl, etc. we may allow them to carry their makeup bags).
We are looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming parent teacher conferences on October 24 and 25th. Please remember those will be half days of classroom time for the students. Spaces will be limited on Thursday October 24, but we will accommodate everyone between Thursday and Friday.
There will be a Homecoming Dance in the near future.  We are in the process of firming up the date with our DJ.  Have a BLESSED week. Thank You for allowing us to be a part of your child's learning journey.
Principal Castillo
